The curriculum in Economics trains students to pursue a career as economists in academics as well as in non-academic jobs (international institutions, private firms, public organizations, financial institutions). The program focuses on the quantitative aspects of the discipline by combining sound theoretical foundations with advanced econometric techniques.
Students can write their dissertation on a number of different topics, both from a theoretical and/or applied perspective. Given the expertise of our faculty at the University of Torino and at the Collegio Carlo Alberto, students who intend to pursue their research in economic theory, applied economics, labour economics (all broadly defined) will certainly find a stimulating and challenging environment.
During the course of the program, students have the opportunity to discuss their work in dedicated seminars and workshops. They attend the seminar series that take place at the Collegio Carlo Alberto, where students of the ECON curriculum have their offices, and interact with the speakers.
An important feature of the program is the emphasis on the possibility of spending some time abroad as a visiting scholar in renowned institutions. Over the last few years, our students spent visiting periods, ranging from 3 to 12 months, in the following institutions: University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University, Northwestern University, New York University, London School of Economics, University College of London, University of Essex, Paris School of Economics and University of Tilburg. There is also the possibility to organize cotutelle agreements such as to receive a double doctoral degree.
